UPDATE 6:15 pm — There is still time to vote! If you are in line by 7:00 pm, you WILL be allowed to vote. Go to the polls and cast your vote!!!

ELECTION DAY 2012

Today, we will elect Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan, George Allen, Patrick Murray,
and
we will MAKE VIRGINIA RED AGAIN!

The polls will be open from 6 am – 7 pm.

Your polling place may have changed since the last election. Please confirm your polling place here.

Lines may be long at polling places, so give yourself enough time to cast your vote – our country is at stake! You may want to consider voting during less busy parts of the day, such as mid-morning and mid-afternoon, if you are available then. The line will close promptly at 7:00 pm – you must be in line by 7 pm or you won’t be able to vote if you are voting last minute. Be advised that parking may be tight during busy periods, especially the evening rush hour, so again, please give yourself enough time to park and get in line.

You must bring a valid form of identification, such as your Virginia drivers license or other federal/state/local government issued ID, your voter registration card, or your military ID. Click here for a list of acceptable forms of ID. (If you come to the poll without a valid form of identification, you will be offered a provisional ballot and then will need to submit a copy of your identification by Friday.)

If you got a mailed absentee ballot and still have not submitted it, you must bring it directly to your county/city elections office today or it will not be counted. Ballots must be received by 7 pm today – a postmark from today will not count.

Remember that there are also elections for Alexandria City Council and Arlington County Board!
» In the City of Alexandria, our Republican nominees are Councilman Frank Fannon, Councilwoman Alicia Hughes, and Bob Wood.
» In Arlington, our Republican nominee for the County Board is Matt Wavro.

Also remember that there are two proposed constitutional amendments on the ballot:

» The first, Question 1, will tighten state eminent domain laws to ensure that private property can only be seized for public purposes, and that private property owners will be more fairly compensated when eminent domain is exercised. The 8th District Republican Committee did not vote on whether to take a position in this amendment, but the amendment is supported (meaning a “YES” vote on the ballot question) by 8th District Chairman Mike Ginsberg, the Alexandria Republican City Committee, the Arlington County Republican Committee, the Fairfax County Republican Committee, Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli, and Governor Bob McDonnell. It is not opposed by any area or state Republican committees or officials to our knowledge.

» The second, Question 2, will allow the General Assembly to change the legislative schedule by no more than a week to ensure that it is not required to be in session during Passover or Holy Week, or any other religious occasions. The amendment is supported by the Alexandria Republican City Committee. Again, to our knowledge, it is not opposed by any area or state Republican committees or officials.

We need all hands on deck for Election Day! We need volunteers for important tasks such as handing out Republican sample ballots outside the polls, making phone calls and going door to door to remind people to vote, driving voters who are without transportation to the polls, watching the polls to ensure the integrity of the election process, and many more important tasks.

All of our Victory Offices open at 6 am and will be open all day until the polls close at 7 pm. If you can come help, even for a little while, please do!
