The New 8th District

As required by the Constitution after the 2010 census, the General Assembly passed a congressional redistricting plan, which was signed by Gov. Bob McDonnell in January and approved by the U.S. Department of Justice in March.

The district remains generally the same – the 8th District still contains all of the City of Alexandria, Arlington County, the City of Falls Church, but the 8th District’s share of Fairfax County has been changed. The biggest change to the 8th District under the plan is that the portion of Reston which is currently in the 8th District is now in the 11th District. Parts of the Mt. Vernon area are now in the 8th District.
