District & State Convention Committees
Reminder: Convention filing forms for Arlington County residents must be postmarked by this Wednesday the 19th. If you are an Arlington resident and want to attend the 8th District Republican Convention and/or the Virginia Republican Convention, you must mail your form by this Wednesday or submit it in person at the Arlington County Republican Committee meeting on Wednesday night. Happy President’s Day. We hope that some of you will be able to join the Alexandria Republicans today as they march in the Alexandria President’s Day parade and celebrate the rich history of the Commonwealth of Virginia. In the meantime, please read below for information on important 8th District and RPV appointments, upcoming unit meetings, Arlington’s candidate for the April 8th special election for County Board, and fast approaching 8th District convention filing deadlines.
First, the 8th District Committee is currently seeking nominations for the Republican Party of Virginia’s (RPV) Convention Committees. The state convention will be held Saturday, June 7 in Roanoke. The four standing committees are Rules, Resolutions, Nominations, and Credentials. The 8th District is entitled to one representative on each committee. If you are interested in serving, please email Brian Pandya (va8gop@gmail.com) by no later than 6:00 PM on Tuesday, February 18 with your name and contact information, along with a brief statement outlining why you would like to serve and your committee preferences 1-4. We usually have far more applicants than spots available, so you will be only contacted if appointed; however, to incentivize applicants, individuals not selected this year will be given strong considersation for future appointments.
Second, the 8th District Committee is currently seeking nominations to serve on the 2014 District Convention Committee. This is a great way to take a leadership role, get more active in the local committee, and have your voice be heard on the convention process. Third, we have a busy week of unit meetings. The Fairfax Republicans meet on Tuesday, February 18, the Arlington Republicans meet on Wednesday, February 19, and the Falls Church Republicans meet on Thursday, February 20. See the column on the left for meeting locations and times.
Lastly, deadlines to register as a delegate to the 8th District and RPV conventions are fast approaching. Each local unit sets its own deadlines The first deadline — Arlington/February 19 — comes this week.
