Delegate David Englin (D-45th District) has announced he will resign from the Virginia House of Delegates on August 31st. The 45th House District contains parts of Alexandria, Arlington, and Fairfax County. Click here to see the map of the 45th District.

There will be a special election to fill his seat on Tuesday, September 4th. The Republican Party will nominate a candidate at special party canvasses this Thursday, August 2nd. All Republicans in the 45th District may participate. If only one candidate files by the deadline on Wednesday, August 1st, then he/she will be declared the nominee and the canvasses will be canceled.

If you live in the 45th District, you may participate in the canvasses from 7:00-9:00 pm at your city/county location:
– The Arlington canvass will be held at the Arlington County Republican Committee headquarters at 405 South Glebe Road in Arlington (map).
– The Alexandria city canvass will be held at the Alexandria Republican City Committee meeting at Minnie Howard School, 3801 West Braddock Road in Alexandria (map).
– The Fairfax County canvass will be held at the Springfield GOP Victory Office at 6320 Augusta Drive, Suite 900, in Springfield (map).
