Today’s updates

First off and most importantly, we hope you and your family are doing okay as the recovery period begins. Please be sure to check in with your neighbors, especially the elderly and disabled, to make sure they are okay and see if they need anything. A simple knock on the door can save a life. We pray for the hardest hit areas up and down the East Coast, including our neighbors in Maryland and up through New England. The death toll is tragic and may be rising. And this storm is not finished yet – it is pushing into the Midwest and will cause more problems there. Please keep everyone affected by this storm in your prayers.

Update 6:45 pm — All three Arlington County in person absentee voting locations will be open Wednesday.

Update 6:30 pm — Falls Church City in person voting will resume tomorrow, Wednesday, at 8 am.

Update 5:00 pm — In person absentee voting in Arlington County at Courthouse Plaza only has reopened until 7 pm, and will be open tomorrow 8 am – 7 pm. The two other Arlington locations’ statuses for tomorrow are TBA.

Update 4:45 pm — In person absentee voting in Fairfax County at the Fairfax County Government Center (12000 Government Center Parkway in Fairfax, map) reopened today at 4 pm and will remain open until 8 pm. Voting at satellite locations will resume tomorrow at extended hours (noon-8 pm). Remember: If you live in Fairfax County, you can vote at any of the seven satellite locations and the main Government Center even if they are not in the 8th District. Check our 2012 Elections page for an updated list of voting locations and hours.

Update 4:30 pm — The State Board of Elections has advised us that the deadline for applications for mailed absentee ballots has been extended to 5 pm tomorrow for elections/registrar offices that are closed today. This means that the deadline has been extended to tomorrow for Arlington County, Falls Church City, and Fairfax County. It has NOT been extended for Alexandria City.

Update 4:00 pm — Fairfax County says that applications for mailed absentee ballots received tomorrow, Wednesday (or whenever the registrar’s office reopens), will be considered on-time since the office is closed and no mail is being delivered on the original deadline, which is today. The rules are unclear for Alexandria, Arlington, and Falls Church; stay tuned for updates.

Update 11:00 am – Absentee voting in the City of Alexandria IS OPEN TODAY, TUESDAY, at the voter registration office at 132 N. Royal St. Suite 100 in Alexandria (map) from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm.

Absentee voting remains closed in Arlington County, Fairfax County, and the City of Falls Church.
