BREAKING: Jim Moran is retiring!
Jim Moran announced this morning that he is finally retiring. Head over to RetireJimMoran.com for full coverage.
Here is an important message from 8th District GOP Chairman Mike Ginsberg:
It seems to be the morning for career announcements — as I write this, word is breaking that Jim Moran plans to retire from Congress. However, I am writing to let you know that in two weeks, I will be making a significant professional change that will require me to step down as District Chairman. After ten years in private legal practice, I will be joining the U.S. government as an attorney in the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. It is an exciting opportunity to serve the country in an area of deep personal and professional interest, and I am looking forward to beginning this new challenge.
However, this position is subject to the Hatch Act’s restrictions on political activity and, in fact, is “super-Hatched”. The Hatch Act will prohibit me from holding an elected office in a political party. Therefore, I am e-mailing to let you know that I will have to resign as 8th District Chairman effective Monday, January 27. I do this with much regret – I love the position, and 2014 is shaping up to be an exciting year for the GOP – but I could not turn down this unique professional opportunity.
At the last 8th District Committee meeting, the Committee unanimously voted to elect Brian Pandya, the 8th District Committee’s Vice Chairman and longtime Arlington activist, as the District Chairman for the remainder of my term. The term lasts until this spring’s 2014 8th District Convention, at which the convention delegates will elect a new District Chairman for a full two-year term. Brian has informed the Committee that he will not seek election to a full term as District Chairman at the 8th District Convention, and therefore no one will have an incumbency advantage in the upcoming District Chairman election. Brian and I have been working together to ensure a smooth transition.
I will continue to remain as active as the law will allow, and I am eager to help in 2014. If I can be helpful in any way, please don’t hesitate to contact me. You can still reach me at va8gopchairman@hotmail.com.
One additional note: the 2014 District Convention is now set for Saturday, April 26, 2014, beginning at 10 a.m. It will be held at Bishop O’Connell High School, 6600 Little Falls Road, Arlington, VA 22213.
With Moran’s retirement, the 8th District is an exciting and important opportunity for the GOP. So it will crucial that we do everything we can in 2014 to offer the conservative alternative to higher taxes, higher regulations, and more government control over our individual lives.
Thank you again for all of your support over my time as District Chairman, and for all you do for the Republican Party of Virginia.
Best regards,
Mike Ginsberg
8th District Chairman
